Craft in America: QUILTS episode premieres on PBS Dec 27, 2019

In case you missed the Quilts episode on TV you can watch it now here or come back later and watch it. I liked the Michael A. Cummings interview. He was a sickly child and by himself often so he learned to draw. While his parents wanted him to major in business he set his mind to become an artists. His quilt "Springtime In Memphis" was inspired after a trip to our marvelous city. I was very impressed with all the featured quilters and what they had to say.

Armed with my pen and paper to take notes, (I am a note taker and list maker) I learned that the segment is available on Amazon Prime Video,You Tube, and PBS.org. Share in a comment what you liked about the Quilt episode.

"I Am A Man" Custom Printed Fabric

During a visit to Spoonflower.com I found this "I Am A Man" custom printed fabric. The iconic "I Am A Man" slogan refers to the signs worn by the striking sanitation workers during a protest march in Memphis, Tennessee. Their fight for better working conditions is what brought Dr. King to Memphis. Sadly he was shot while standing on the balcony of the Loraine Motel.

This is a image of the fabric I purchased.

All eyes will be on Memphis this week as we commemorate the anniversary of his death on April 4, 1968. This morning I could not travel my usual route to work. Many streets are closed since there will be a lot of automobile traffic as well as foot traffic. It is in the spirit of Dr. King that I share with you the fabric and the message. It is reminiscent of days gone by when I too supported the sanitation workers and their message just as he did 50 years ago.

Peace, love, and art,
Angela
