In case you missed the Quilts episode on TV you can watch it now here or come back later and watch it. I liked the Michael A. Cummings interview. He was a sickly child and by himself often so he learned to draw. While his parents wanted him to major in business he set his mind to become an artists. His quilt "Springtime In Memphis" was inspired after a trip to our marvelous city. I was very impressed with all the featured quilters and what they had to say.<br />
<br />
Armed with my pen and paper to take notes, (I am a note taker and list maker) I learned that the segment is available on Amazon Prime Video,You Tube, and PBS.org. Share in a comment what you liked about the Quilt episode.<br />

The iconic "I Am A Man" slogan refers to the signs worn by the striking sanitation workers during a protest march in Memphis, Tennessee. Their fight for better working conditions is what brought Dr. King to Memphis. Sadly he was shot while standing on the balcony of the Loraine Motel.<br />
<br />
This is a image of the fabric I purchased.<br />

<br />
All eyes will be on Memphis this week as we commemorate the anniversary of his death on April 4, 1968. This morning I could not travel my usual route to work. Many streets are closed since there will be a lot of automobile traffic as well as foot traffic. It is in the spirit of Dr. King that I share with you the fabric and the message. It is reminiscent of days gone by when I too supported the sanitation workers and their message just as he did 50 years ago.<br />

This analogy in many ways describes what connects us rather than what makes us different.<br />

<br />
Can you imagine how excited I was upon salvaging this cotton stalk from a grade school teacher who taught a lesson on Cotton during Black History Month. Many of the children had never seen real cotton before. They really loved the touch, feel, and smell of it. This plant is straight from the Mississippi Delta.<br />

Known as "King Cotton" it is the most common fiber used by quilters.<br />
<br />
It would also make for a beautiful flower arrangement with other natural plants too.<br />

“Off the Wall Nine Patch” is made from a fat quarter medley I purchased sometime ago from a online quilt shop. I think this pattern does a good job of showcasing the Red Ware Revisited fabric by ChanteClarie . I am very happy with the quilt but it looks much better than this photo. The fabric reminds me of the Pennsylvania Dutch county I love visiting especially the restaurants<br />

<br />
“The States” Block of Month was 2013 project of my quilt guild. I plan to exhibit this quilt at our Christmas party this year. This one also uses a fat quarter medley called <br />
Floral Trails by Moda.<br />

I saw the tutorial <a href="http://www.twomoreseconds.com/2011/03/blogging-process-my-3x6-bee-blocks.html" target="_blank">here</a> </span><span style="font-size: medium;">and <a href="http://www.texasfreckles.com/2010/12/do-good-stitches-december-blocks.html" target="_blank">here</a> . If you want to try making these I’ve included a few easy steps. </span> <br />
<span style="font-size: medium;"></span> <br />
<span style="font-size: medium;"></span> <br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">I like to cut my strips between 2 to 3 inches wide.</span> <br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-pKk4pnXfuQg/VBPh5Ek0SlI/AAAAAAAACIc/tBUCWo-lMi4/s1600-h/100_11303.jpg"><img alt="100_1130" border="0" height="244" src="https://lh4.ggpht.com/-xi5l3GqeoDY/VBPh51VFwnI/AAAAAAAACIk/TzioybPAYX0/100_1130_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="100_1130" width="222" /></a> <br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">Sew enough strips together to get about a 13 x 13 inch block. You will need two of these. </span> <br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-GIoeJibt3wY/VBPh67COSsI/AAAAAAAACIs/HKQRau7gT0E/s1600-h/100_11283.jpg"><img alt="100_1128" border="0" height="244" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-k6-TyflT_L0/VBPh7SjSS0I/AAAAAAAACI0/4OFUTe7c0bw/100_1128_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="100_1128" width="201" /></a> <br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">Press strips and trim to 12.5 x 12.5 blocks</span> <br />
<span style="font-size: medium;"><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-NsVh84gc9s0/VBPh8vKmgHI/AAAAAAAACI8/s36u9lCqez8/s1600-h/100_11357.jpg"><img alt="100_1135" border="0" height="244" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-yPUKGMj8Pc0/VBPh9Gdfl1I/AAAAAAAACJE/-lvP6BtDOZM/100_1135_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="100_1135" width="184" /></a></span> <br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">Place right sides together and pin strips together with one strip running horizontally and the other running vertically. </span> <br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-U4UEs54euX0/VBPh-Sy1b1I/AAAAAAAACJM/r2ipvg00KMY/s1600-h/100_11383.jpg"><img alt="100_1138" border="0" height="244" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-uLYbYrjgbiQ/VBPh-0OYE3I/AAAAAAAACJU/vVd2KoiX1tc/100_1138_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="100_1138" width="215" /></a> <br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">Sew a scant 1/4 seam allowance around the entire block.</span> <br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-YSo3WKaU_yY/VBPh_-HGmvI/AAAAAAAACJc/ePkLbnvVc9U/s1600-h/100_11393.jpg"><img alt="100_1139" border="0" height="244" src="https://lh4.ggpht.com/-Ry6SRyOwgBo/VBPiARgXyTI/AAAAAAAACJk/sR6dDnLNows/100_1139_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="100_1139" width="222" /></a> <br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">Cut blocks twice on the diagonal corner to corner. You will have 4 smaller blocks now. </span> <br />
<span style="font-size: medium;"> </span> <br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-SE0twBw1jms/VB5XZTD9EEI/AAAAAAAACMU/jAfx6xys-P0/s1600-h/100_1143%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="100_1143" border="0" height="220" src="https://lh6.ggpht.com/-ZVgjWqSGTMg/VB5XaG4f4CI/AAAAAAAACMc/GmtLOOb35V0/100_1143_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="100_1143" width="244" /></a> <br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">Decide which way you want to arrange your blocks and sew together. This</span><br />
<span style="font-size: medium;"> makes a lovely block. I plan to frame each of my blocks with a 2 to 3 inch strip of a neutral color fabric. Remember since you are cutting your squares on the diagonal you will get some bias distortion. Spraying the block with a little starch when you press helps. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">My finished block.</span> <br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-GxHOrhFsT2k/VB4cj8nVXnI/AAAAAAAACL4/dLGftjABMSw/s1600-h/100_13617.jpg"><img alt="100_1361" border="0" height="241" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-VCB0YxUP68g/VB4cksDCwJI/AAAAAAAACMA/Po9-PqXyKeQ/100_1361_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="100_1361" width="244" /></a> <br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">Have a wonderful week.</span> <br />

Amy , the blogger at <a href="http://www.13spools.com/">13 spools</a> did a post on <a href="http://www.13spools.com/">10 Quilt Secrets</a> and boy did it go over big . A lot of bloggers followed her lead and posted their quilt secrets too. WELL confession is good for the soul and here are my 10 Quilty Secrets.<br />
1. I am proud to say that I only have about 12 UFO’s that I need to finish.<br />
2 . I have in the past had my used rotary cutter blades re- sharpened.<br />
3 . I really wanted this gadget, the Quilter’s FabriCalc that I have yet to use.<br />
4 . I am getting better at switching out my sewing machine needles.<br />
5 . I love shopping for new fabric if it is for a special quilt project.<br />
6 . Sometimes I will use pretty sheets as backing for my quilts.<br />
7. I prefer not to work with small fabrics pieces.<br />
8 . I like the quality of Gutermann thread.<br />
9. The part that worries me the most about my quilting is the binding, I want it perfect.<br />
10. Since I started taking better care of my sewing machine it sews better.<br />

<br />
I am excited that I finally decided on a title for the photo book on my quilts.<br />
<br />
<br />
My working title is: <br />
<em><strong>Quilts</strong></em><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><em> </em></span><br />
I am self-publishing using the internet website <a href="http://www.mixbook.com/">http://www.mixbook.com</a>. I am enjoying working with this self publishing platform. Check it out and let me know what you think?<br />
This will be a photo book and include personal antidotes, quotes, etc. I would love any suggestions or comments that you can think of that I might consider.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I drive by this sign often , today I parked along the curb, snapped picture and said a prayer for peace on earth.<br />

Mexican painter Frida Kahlo<br />
I have always admired Frida Kahlo’s work, but admit I knew very little about her life and art other than her beautiful recognizable face. So I decided to join the event at <a href="https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/100621561182011113889" target="_blank">Sewing On My Kitchen Table</a> to celebrate her birthday by making something that captures the style and spirit of Frida Kahlo.<br />
I began by finding a image and a thought provoking quote I liked to create a journal page. I traced the image on fabric and filled in with colored pencils.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;">

<br />
Her thick eyebrows were her trademark<br />
<br />
<br />
She wore elaborate hairdos with braids and flowers. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
She painted self-portraits surrounded by her pets<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The 60th anniversary of Elvis Presley's first rock and roll recording in Memphis is all the buzz. On July 5th 1954 he was 19 years old and on that day recorded "That's All Right". That day changed his life forever when he went on to become the King of Rock and Roll.<br />
<br />
To celebrate this historic event I made this Elvis pillow cover. It is in my etsy shop <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/185305063/elvis-decor-14-inch-pillow-cover?ref=listing-0">here</a><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibXfKAugt0kfwr9sHQlC9gJDC1stM1KOGyB_wypamMW7kpx-peEQtRCgA-M49mrHKcHbGqjYtQtwZptUK20cSvomp2CNFfyuTCNcvaK5xqsaBe7aS1YW-EsyHVwf0R7vdOmWyO/s1600/100_0994.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibXfKAugt0kfwr9sHQlC9gJDC1stM1KOGyB_wypamMW7kpx-peEQtRCgA-M49mrHKcHbGqjYtQtwZptUK20cSvomp2CNFfyuTCNcvaK5xqsaBe7aS1YW-EsyHVwf0R7vdOmWyO/s1600/100_0994.JPG" height="289" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: x-small;"> Note this is for a pillow cover only, you will need to purchase the insert .</span><br />
<br />
<br />
I have 2 14 inch pillow covers available for immediate shipping and have enough fabric to make several more.<span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span><br />
<br />

Machine pieced and quilted to share at my quilt guild xmas party, our party was cancelled due to inclement weather last year and was I disappointed.<br />
<br />
The quilt measure 52.5"x70.5" and is made using various quilting cottons. <br />
<br />
You can read about one of the star blocks in this quilt called "Annie's Choice" <a href="http://angelabiz.blogspot.com/search?q=block+of+month">here</a><br />
<br />
Thank you to Amy for hosting the festival and to the sponsors for their generosity. <br />
Now relax and enjoy viewing and reading about all the quilts you see.<br />

I thought it was the flu but after several days of being in the throws I knew it was something serious. Tried the natural cures like increasing intake of fluids, herbal teas, and fresh fruits but couldn’t fight it. A trip to ER resulted in a three day stay in the hospital. <br />
It can be prevented with the pneumonia vaccine which I did get. So good to be back home, I am on my way to a full recovery.<br />

Decided to expand my audience and sharing publicity on google+ which is a combination of all the great things that google does plus more to come, like gmail, circles, +1, communities, hangouts, photo sharing, mobile, etc.<br />

The neighbors called yesterday to tell me that you were in their yard. I went there to find you gone to pet heaven. I will miss you my friend. I will miss you, the neighbors will miss you. I will miss you waiting for me to return home from errands. It hurts now but I will be okay. <br />
